Recent Highlights from Radford Building Company: Partnerships, Webinars, and Industry Conversations

Radford Building Company continues to stay actively engaged in conversations shaping the custom home building industry. From sharing operational insights with fellow builders to participating in industry webinars and publications, these recent highlights reflect an ongoing commitment to improving how high-quality homes are designed, planned, and delivered.

Below are a few recent moments where Jason Radford contributed to discussions around growth, systems, and the evolving business of building.

Strategic Growth and the Business of Building: Insights from the NAHB Panel

Building custom homes today requires more than craftsmanship. It requires strong systems, a clear process, and a deep understanding of how the business side of building works.

In a recent industry panel, the NAHB International Builders’ Show (IBS) 2026 in Orlando, titled 3 Journeys of Builder and Remodeler Growth: Strategies & Lessons Learned,” Jason Radford shared practical insights from running a modern design-build firm and scaling operations in a competitive construction market.

One of the central ideas discussed was the shift many builders must make, from focusing purely on construction to mastering the business systems that support a successful custom home building company.

Jason described the reality most builders experience as they grow:

“I’m very much in the trenches; trying to figure out how to grow, how to scale, what things to do, what’s working, what’s not working.”

A major theme of the conversation was the role of pre-construction planning in delivering successful projects. In custom home building, a significant portion of the work happens long before construction begins. Detailed planning, budgeting, and design coordination during this phase help ensure smoother projects once the build starts.

For homeowners planning a custom home or major renovation in Durham, this early planning phase is critical. Careful pre-construction work helps clarify scope, establish realistic budgets, and reduce surprises during construction.

Jason explained how structured planning creates confidence for both the homeowner and the builder. By defining design decisions, selections, and schedules early, the project becomes far more predictable.

“Our goal is to help clients understand the value of the planning process and how it minimizes risk. When everything is mapped out before construction begins, the project runs much more smoothly.”

Another topic discussed during the panel was the role of automation and operational systems in managing client inquiries and project pipelines. As companies grow, systems become essential for maintaining responsiveness while protecting time for design, planning, and project execution.

Jason reflected on how operational improvements changed the way his firm manages new inquiries:

“My cell phone used to be the only number out there. Now systems handle scheduling and lead management automatically. Someone can book a call even while I’m away with my family, and it’s already on the calendar.”

These operational improvements allow builders to maintain a high level of responsiveness while focusing on delivering high-quality homes through a structured design-build process.

The session brought together construction business leaders, financial specialists, and HR experts to discuss one of the most challenging aspects of running a growing company: knowing when and how to expand capacity.

During the discussion, speakers shared perspectives on managing growth in a way that protects both project quality and financial stability. The conversation focused on practical strategies for sequencing new hires, planning equipment purchases, and maintaining strong cash-flow management as construction businesses scale.
